UIL - Godley's Littlejohn headed to state

GODLEY — Dylan Littlejohn is headed to the state cross country meet at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock on Friday after a third-place finish on Saturday in Arlington at the regional meet with a time of 16:54.73.

Littlejohn, a Godley sophomore, said he is looking forward to competing at the top level.

“I’m very excited,” Littlejohn said. “I can’t believe it. It’s been a lot of hard work.”

That hard work has included specific training focusing on sprints, Littlejohn said, to help finish races strong.

“I’ve just put a lot of miles in,” Littlejohn said. “I’ve worked on my sprints a lot. That’s helped out a lot at the end of the race to pass the other guys that were in front of me.”

Being only a sophomore, Littlejohn could have two more trips to the state meet in his future, something that he is already anticipating, he said.

“Oh yeah, I can’t wait until then,” Littlejohn said. “I’m starting to look at times and I’ll hopefully compete a lot better later on.”

With the top ten individual finishers from each region going to the meet, the competition will be the cream of the crop.

Littlejohn is one of two Johnson County runners to advance to Round Rock, with the other being Tyler Chappell from Cleburne who used a burst of speed on the last stretch of the regional race to pass up several competitors and claim a fourth-place finish.
