Boerne Champion Sophomore Edges Ahead Of Brynn Brown For Fastest Ever 5K At Old Settlers Park By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Photos by Bert Richardson Elizabeth Leachman of Boerne Champion, No. 2 in the latest DyeStat Individual rankings, tore through the Texas state meet cross country course at Old Settlers Park on Friday and ran a time of 16:25.5 to win the Class 5A individual title. Leachman's time exceeds the performance of Denton Guyer's Brynn Brown, who ran 16:25.89 in the 2020 Class 6A Final. Leachman also beat reigning NXR South champion Isabel Conde de Frankenberg of Cedar Park by a minute and nine seconds. Conde de Frankenberg finished second in the 5A Lucas Lovejoy swept the Class 5A team titles. The girls scored 40 points, with Sara Morefield and Camryn Benson placing third and fourth and Peyton Benson taking ninth. The boys won handily with 56 points. Ethan Rodriguez of Richland High (North Richland Hills) won the 5A boys race in 14:55.8. Southlake Carroll scored 48 points and withstood a challenge from Austin Vandegrift on the way to the Class 6A boys title. Sophomore Caden Leonard, as he has all year, led the Dragons with a victory in 15:00.1. The No. 4 team in the country went 1-4-14-19-28 on the way to the title. Hudson Haley was second in the 6A race and led Vandegrift to second place with 69 points. Flower Mound's Samantha Humphries and Alexandra Fox went 4-5 up front to lead the Jaguars back to the top of the podium with 41 points. Macy Wingard from Denton Braswell survived a close race with San Juanita Leal from Edinburg North in the 6A girls race. Wingard edged Leal 16:57 to 16:57.6.
